Booksellers – Understanding the Comparable Titles Lifetime Sales

To be able to show you deeper sales history for comp titles in Edelweiss, we can take a one-time file of the total, lifetime sales, for all items in the store’s system. This means that you will be able to see older sales, which is especially helpful for stores that are on Treeline, but have not been sending us sales for very long.

We will process the file to update the LFS (lifetime sales) numbers in the comp titles area with the complete historical numbers from your POS system, and then from that point on, we will add to the lifetime sales numbers (LFS) from your ongoing Treeline Analytics’ nightly sales feeds.

Details:

Your store must subscribe to one of our Analytics’ services, e.g. Treeline Analytics, Edelweiss Analytics, Analytics Lite, or PRH Free.  (Exclusive Data-pass-through subscribers are not eligible for posting these files.)

You, or your POS system provider, should provide us with a file that meets these criteria:

  • Two fields:  ISBN, and lifetime sales total (Units)
  • Preferred format:  comma-delimited (.csv) files; though we will accept pipe (|) or tab-delimited .txt files, too

The file should be created as close to the end of the month as possible—before sales are rolled for that month.

The file ideally should be posted to the Lifetime Sales sub-folder within your regular Treeline/Analytics FTP folder, along with a notification that it is thereby emailed to us at support@abovethetreeline.com.  Alternatively, if the file is not too large, it could be attached to the email if that is easier.

This is a one-time process, so we don’t need a regular update of this. Please contact us if you have any questions!

As you’ll see below, Anthology and Booklog tech support have provided details for generating this file on your own.  For all others, please contact your POS system support team for assistance.

Anthology Users:  Please follow the instructions located here to create your own LFS file that you can email to us.

Booklog Users:  Follow these instructions to create your own LFS file if you use Windows XP

1. Download the following two files called “treeline_inventory_export.exe” and “treeline_inventory_export.pbd” and save them in your store’s c:\blwin32 folder.

Depending on your internet browser, you may need to find them in your Downloads folder, then copy and paste them into the c:\blwin32 folder.

2. Run the “treeline_inventory_export.exe” file needs.  This will create a text file called “treeline_inventory_export.txt”, which will have the ISBN, quantity sold in it.  This file will be created in the c:\blwin32 directory.

3. Copy that text file and email it to us at support@abovethetreeline.com.  That’s it!

Booklog Users:  Follow these instructions to create your own LFS file if you use Windows 7

1. Download the following three files called “treeline_inventory_export.exe”, “treeline_inventory_export.pbd” and “treeline_inventory_export.exe.manifest” and save them in your store’s c:\blwin32 folder.   The manifest file is needed just for Windows 7 clients.  It is needed as a supplement to the .exe file that is run in step 2 below.

Depending on your internet browser, you may need to find them in your Downloads folder, then copy and paste them into the c:\blwin32 folder.

2. Run the “treeline_inventory_export.exe” file.  This will create a text file called “treeline_inventory_export.txt”, which will have the ISBN, quantity sold in it.  This file will be created in the c:\blwin32 directory.

3. Copy that text file and email it to us at support@abovethetreeline.com.  That’s it!
